SASH! is one of Germany’s most successful dance music acts, with over 22 million records sold worldwide. Known for global hits like Encore Une Fois, Ecuador, and Mysterious Times, SASH! brought a unique fusion of trance, house, and pop to the charts throughout the late '90s and 2000s. It might sound unbelievable, but it’s true: a boy from Nettetal, near Mönchengladbach, became one of Germany’s biggest musical exports. SASH!, the project led by producer and frontman Sascha Lappessen, took the world by storm with a series of international club and chart hits that shaped the global trance and pop landscape.
Sascha's journey began far from the spotlight. Initially showing promise as a football talent, he turned to music after his father turned down an offer from Borussia Mönchengladbach. Gifted with an organ at age nine, Sascha discovered a love for music and quickly found ways to charm audiences—even entertaining hotel guests during family ski trips.
After completing his training as a power electronics engineer, he worked as a light and DJ technician in major German clubs. There, he met future production partners Thomas Alisson and Ralf Kappmeier. In 1995, SASH! was born, and their debut single It’s My Life became an underground club success. But it was the 1996 breakout hit Encore Une Fois that launched SASH! onto the global stage.
The hits kept coming: Ecuador, La Primavera, Mysterious Times, Move Mania, Colour The World, Just Around the Hill, With My Own Eyes, Raindrops, and more. SASH! blended trance, house, and pop with multilingual vocals—working in Spanish, French, Italian, and African influences—and collaborated with stars such as Tina Cousins, Shannon, Dr. Alban, Sarah Brightman, and Boy George.
SASH! became a regular on international charts, achieving top spots not only across Europe but also in the USA (including several No. 1s on the Billboard Dance Charts), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia, and Japan. Their sound was so influential that major artists like Jean Michel Jarre, OMD, 2 Unlimited, and Kylie Minogue asked SASH! to remix their work.
With more than 22 million records sold and a career spanning over two decades, SASH! remains one of the most booked DJs worldwide. Despite the fame, Sascha Lappessen has kept his roots intact—choosing a peaceful life in his hometown Nettetal over the glitz and glamour of celebrity hotspots. A true legend who continues to shape the dance music scene with passion and humility.
