Dennis Horstmann, better known as Special D., began his musical journey at age 13 when he discovered keyboards and pianos. He quickly developed a passion for dance music and impressed his schoolmates with his DJ skills. At 15, he used his savings to build a home studio, where he began producing music. His talent didn’t go unnoticed — he was soon invited to work in the studio of Brooklyn Bounce producers Dennis Bohn and Matthias Menck.
Breakthrough and International Hits
Special D. made his big breakthrough in 2003 with the single Come with Me, which reached No. 13 on the German charts and became a Top 10 hit in both the Netherlands and the UK. His second single, Home Alone, continued in his signature style while adding breakbeats and hip-hop elements, earning him further success and the title of “rising star” of 2003.

His rapid success led to a nomination for the prestigious ECHO Award, and he won the TMF Award for Best International Dance Act in the Netherlands. He was also nominated for the Radio 538 Award in the category “Best Song of 2003.”
